Appu was invited by Asai lyah’s (Mr Thirunavukarasu) mother to continue meditation in their ancestral property in 1914. Appu accepted their request and continued his meditation there until his Maha Samathy in March 1964.
Our close relationship with Appu started when my aunty (Mrs Thirunavukarasu) married Mr Thirunavukarasu in January 1940.
My mother and Mrs Thirunavucarasu (Assai Mummy) were the only children to Mr & Mrs Ponnambalam in their family in Columbuthurai and they were brought back from their early education in Malaysia, where our grandfather Mr Ponnambalam was employed and resided.
My mother was blessed with 5 children and her sister (Assai mummy) with 3 children. The family always lived as a family of 8 children.
Their names are
1- Sivayogaratnam (Acca)
2- Senthil Selvam (Chinna Acca)
3- Sivayoganathan (Annai)
4- Thirugnanasampanthan (Chinna Annai)
5- Sivayogeswary (Yogi Acca)
6- Sivayogaiswaran (Eswaran)
7- Thirumagal(Thiru)
8- Sivayogan (Yogan).
From the very first day of my recollection, we called Yogaswamy as Appu and Appu has been a part of our family. Appu’s affection and teaching combined with his unfailing guidelines always directed us in the right path.
Appu has protected us from knowing that he was the divine incarnation, which enabled us to carry out everything he wanted without any fixed boundaries to our love and affection to Appu. Our father’s (Mr S. Kandiah) early demise made more closeness within the family. Appu got us to carryout daily chores in the house, followed by teaching religious education and Sanskrit.
